Last on the list of
demographic and political
groups you would ever expect
Barack Obama to beg to keep
voting Democrat -- lefty bloggers. But that's
exactly what their Dear
Leader did in a video
presented to
Netroots
Nation's annual gathering in
Las Vegas this week.
"In ways large and
small we've begun to deliver
on the change you fought so
hard for...We cant afford to slide
backward...and that's the
choice America faces this
November. Keep
up the fight."
-
Obama on video.
Since, to date, the
president has not begged
anyone else to hang with
him, it is probably a safe
bet that he has |
|
"Change hasn't come fast
enough for too many
Americans.
I know that."
|
already given up on all of
those other segments of the
political population that the polls
indicate have been leaving him in
droves.
But as surprising as this apology to
the lefties is -- Obama apologized for
his failure, among other things, to
end our military involvement in Iraq
and Afghanistan, to close Guantanamo,
to include the public option in
Obamacare and to repeal "don't ask
don't tell" --
what the president said he is going
to do next is tantamount to writing
off the concerns of these
beg-recipient liberals for an even
longer indefinite period of time.
Obama said he
"hopes to refocus attention
on the economy."
Based on his track record, when the
majority of us hear or read stuff
like that we take it one of two
ways.
Either we roll our eyes and
anticipate that absolutely nothing
will happen -- except, perhaps,
another vacation with his family or
some more golf outings and
fundraisers -- or we cringe and
brace ourselves for higher taxes,
more foreclosures and the continued
non-creation of private sector jobs.
Unlike the president and his
erstwhile cult of personality, most
Americans are already quite focused
on the economy. Not many of us
would be thrilled with the prospect
of getting more lefties involved
with trying to fix it.

While Obama stayed away from
the Las Vegas gathering, the
other two prongs of his
troika were on hand to shill
for him.
Nancy Pelosi, who introduced
Obama's video, asked the
crowd to recognize what has
been achieved since Obama's
took office and
"not let differences cause a
political fissure."
Harry Reid got applause for
telling the crowd that "there
are times, I'm told, I get
on your nerves."

"It's hot enough in Vegas to
melt my Botox but
I don't see anyone
swooning."

With shills like Reid and Pelosi and
a disaffected blogging corps it
looks like the president has a lot
more to fear than his critics on the
right.
