Cliffs Notes on the 2010 State of the Union Address

In the interest of brevity,

please refrain from standing and/or cheering during

the reading of this address...

Obama's reckless spending days may be over...

...and we'll have you

out of here in no time.

  • Obamacare is on life support, if not dead.

  • The stimulus has been ineffective.  Unemployment has increased from 8% to 10% in Obama's first year.

  • Repeated claims that the administration has "created or saved" as many as two million jobs are discredited by the statistical loss of 6-10 million jobs overall since Obama's inauguration.

  • Spending is out of control; the deficit has grown exponentially.

  • Terrorism is in resurgence; there is increased worry about homeland security and air travel.

  • Other promises -- the closure of Gitmo "in one year", "no jobs for lobbyists", "transparency in all things", bi-partisanship, "earmark reform" and the bringing-home of troops from Iraq in 16 months, to name a few -- have proven to be merely rhetorical.

  • Massachusetts, New Jersey and Virginia have voted overwhelmingly for Republican candidates after going for Obama by wide margins in 2008.

  • Even New York's legalistic libs are re-thinking the advisability of the administration's decision to try 9/11 conspirators in their midst.

  • Rogue nations, particularly Iran and North Korea, are potentially more dangerous than they were a year ago.

  • China and Russia are critical of our economic and military policies as are our "allies" in Europe despite any number of "reset button" tours by the President and the Secretary of State.

I apologize for going over by two words and I regret not mentioning "the many letters I receive and the 10-per night that I actually read."

"Terrorism is in resurgence" - say it ain't so, Bloggo! A trillion dollars, 2 wars, how many dead? and enough blood on the hands of Bush AND Obama to disgrace them both?  (PS - unfortunately, I have to agree with pretty much of the rest of it).

Sums it up pretty good. If I had known you were going to do this I would have avoided watching the donkey pep club and sour lemon pucker elephants. Good job eddo!

Ed, you could have said "Mr. Obama was blowing out more hot air then he was sucking in." Enough said.

I think the public blames the Republicans as much as Obama and the Democrats for the economic problems.

Much of the other problems you listed are Obama related but I think the economic question will be much debated but neither side will gain with the voters on this issue...especially since the jobs figure won't improve much before election day.

The Republicans are happy right now but I think they have forgotten that the public blames them for much of this mess, which is why they lost power everywhere in the last few years. The Dems are in trouble because all they could say is they weren't George W. Now they have no issues other than giveaways.

[The public blames the guy who's in charge. If things get screwed up and/or remain unfixed during his watch it doesn't matter who he blames it on...he's OUT! -ED]

Do you really think this is all Obamas doing? It took us eight years to get us to this point and your kind expect it will change in a year?!!! Next time write two hundred words of what your plan is and send it to Obama you genius!

...as you know EVERY speech is salted with "the preceding administration" excuse for every one of those to the degree that it is now mere WHINING.

[It has been whining and excuse-making since Day One.  Thankfully, it has now reached the point at which even those who once made excuses for the Bolshevic Plotter can no longer bring themselves to do so. -ED]

That's about it...!

Sadly, though your blog is right on target, there is nothing in either yours or Obama's address to stand and cheer for. How has this great nation fallen so low and how much lower can we go?

You left out the point that all the failures in his administration will be written off as "You can't fix 8 years of failures in (fill in the blank from 1-4) years." BHO will get credit for whatever successes he may achieve, and none of the blame for any of the poorly thought out, and hastily enacted crap legislation and spending we keep seeing.

I've been wondering where the blinders I used to use on my horse disappeared too...apparently the President has borrowed them...

See how easy that was? And it didn't take 70 minutes of blathering to do it.

The SOTU Address seems to have very little to do with the State of the Union, it's become more of a statement of accomplishment or campaign speech. Obama tried taking that to a new level.

Great analysis and right on target.  You forgot to mention the less than truthful words Obama uttered as well.

My version of the whole speech is less words than yours. You did it, I couldn't, it's your fault.

Well, hell. I could've saved seventy minutes of my life and enough yelling "Liar" at the television that my ten-year-old got frustrated with me and went to bed...

Great job, Eddo!

Put another way, Obama's sentiment might read, "I know it's hard for you folks to comprehend, but I'm trying to take care of you." Such an attitude is unbecoming a public servant. The burden is not on President Obama to explain his plan, and on We the People to listen, but on him to listen to us.

...It will be a very safe bet, to bet that the Republicans do not invite The President to anymore of their events, such as today. He wiped a lot of smirks off their faces today. To put it another way...he ate their lunch...lol..............

[The GOP would have had their retreat regardless and the Bolshevic Plotter would have been flying somewhere on Air Force One -- totally ignoring them as he has since Day One -- if he wasn't on the ropes and about to go down for the count.  BTW, one of those GOP senators is the guy who beat Obama, Kennedy and Coakley last week in Mass. -ED]
