Sowell Training                                                                                                                         eddobloggo® RSS feed provided by FeedityRSS Feed

Add being born during the first year of the Great Depression and having socialists blow smoke at him for 80 years to Thomas Sowell's credentials as a conservative American economist, social critic, political commentator, author and un-spinner.

The common-sense genius of Thomas Sowell makes even his shorter columns and every one of his observations extremely thought provoking...

Thomas Sowell: An American economist, social critic, political commentator and author.

From Thomas Sowell

New York Post column 12/23/10 ...

"When arguing against the tax compromise, Sen. Bernie Sanders castigated "the rich" asking "When is enough enough?" and saying that "reckless uncontrollable greed is like a disease." Such statements are far more applicable to government big spenders and big taxers, who confiscate not only the earnings of today's citizens, but the earnings of generations yet unborn, who will be left a record-breaking national debt."

To no one's surprise the Soviet Socialist Republic of Vermont re-elected its openly "Independent" senator on November 2nd which made Bernie Sanders as entitled as any lame-ducker to launch an eight-hour-plus minibuster. The only thing that can be added to Thomas Sowell's cogent commentary on the subject of "reckless uncontrollable greed" is that socialistas like Bernie Sanders have been incredibly greedy by glomming so much constituent-paid Congressional floor time to push Obama's minority views during their majority. Near-zero approval ratings are the unsurprising result of the people's anger over legislators' failure to do our bidding.

"Neither the Bible, the Torah nor the Koran mentions Christmas trees. Yet some secular zealots try to ban Christmas trees on government property, based on the doctrine of "separation of church and state" -- a doctrine found nowhere in the Constitution."

If lefties don't like Christmas trees on government property then why do they tolerate the Obamas' indoor and outdoor Christmas trees.

If lefties don't like Christmas trees on government property then why do they tolerate the Obamas' indoor and outdoor Christmas trees.

Acceptable?

Unacceptable!

"Among the things that have come out in the WikiLeaks documents is that the king of Saudi "The king of Saudi Arabia has a more realistic understanding of the enormous dangers of an Iranian nuclear bomb than does the president of the United States." - Thomas SowellArabia has a more realistic understanding of the enormous dangers of an Iranian nuclear bomb than does the president of the United States."

Two years later, nothing about the administration's Iran policy has changed.  If not for a cyber-virus setback attack on its nuke facility from an unknown source, Iran might be threatening a neighbor nation with nuclear warfare, just as its sister-nuke nation North Korea is doing while Obama apologists continue implying that there has never been an Axis of Evil and that Bush's language was more bellicose than A-jad's and Kim Jong Il's.

The History Channel has some very good programs when it sticks to history. But it keeps going off on tangents, with all kinds of contemporary activities and even weird speculations that are not history.
While primarily entertainment programs such as American Pickers and Pawn Stars offer at least a Chumlee adds stupidity to the 'comedy' of the History Channel's Pawn Stars.modicum of history learning, the cadre of speculative UFO, Mayan calendar, space alien, crypto-zoological and Bible debunking presentations each drone on for an hour asking the same draw-your-own-conclusion question over and over again -- just prior to each commercial break.

I've read him for years too.  His opinions helped form mine.  So much so that these days if Sowell is against it my reaction is that I'm probably for it.  His hate for our teachers is but one of his many sins.

[If he "hates" our teachers it's because they've been turning out amoral lefty dunces in their own image for far too long. -ED]

He sounds like me! Wait let me rephrase that I sound like him. I am sure he is much smarter than me. I agree with every statement he makes. Good one.

Tax cuts why should anyone want to pay taxes to a government that did not listen to the will of the people. Waste tax dollars like toilet paper, and has no budget...

But the Leftists/Socialists do not consider Mr. Sowell a reputable source. They prefer larry summers and paul krigman. Seems those two idiots will say whatever the libs want to hear.

Thomas Sowell is a treasure.

I recall having a Christmas tree in my elementary classroom in the late 60's. It was a lot of fun.

One of Thomas Sowell's favorite quotations is this, from Jean-Baptiste Say: "Alas, how many have been persecuted for the wrong of having been right?"  We don't know how many.  Conservatives know who they are, however. They persecuted them. Made them wear the red "L" letter around their collective necks and fastened them to pillories.

I agree with [Mr. Sowell and] you on "The History Channel", the last bastion of intelligent programming is coming an end the same way "Discovery Channel" and "The Learning Channel" lost my viewership.

I wonder if those wonderful documentaries on the World and U.S. history, as well as the history of things like beer, coffee, sugar, chocolate, etc, etc, will be available for download? At least we still have books.

Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams are two of my favorite conservatives. Of course the left doesn't like them because they're black conservatives. To those on the left the only good blacks are the ones that vote Democrat

CMB and eddo: Sadly, you are both right. While I do enjoy Pawn Stars because if its emphasis on historical items, that is about as much of a "reality show" as I can stand.

Already, Modern Marvels has morphed into a half-assed re-run and re-cut show called Modern Marvels Essentials that probably foreshadows the direction they are headed.

Oh, come on, Eddie! Thomas Sowell is Uncle Ben & Aunt Jemimah's secret love child, and we all know it.

[Both were intelligent enough to be hugely successful with their products.  So if you're truthin' then we know how Mr. Sowell got so smart. Otherwise, it's an extremely bad joke that I'd expect to hear from a lib.  Or you're yankin' ma laig hoping for an intelligent reply ...which is hereby served.  -ED]

Sowell has long been on my short list of people with whom to be stranded on a desert island. Never met him... just know he and I would get along fine and have some wonderful discussions.

Why eddo, I thought you were one of those right wing, white robe wearing, Obama bashing, racists. You mean you actually agree with a black man? How could that be? Could it really be that you judge a man by the content of his character not the color of his skin?

[What made you say that, mighty? I don't recall ever mentioning Sowell's race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, immigration status or physical challenges. But I apologize for disclosing his age. -ED]

Sowell, very intelligent and thoughtful man...Great reading...

Sowell takes the obvious, and explains it in a way all can understand. and he makes it short and to the point.

Got a question here for Mr. Sowell.

If welfare states and government intervention in the economy are so bad, why are countries like Germany, China, and Brazil winning so many global economic competitions? Which one is the U.S.A. winning? Agriculture, which is rife with government programs. Inquiring minds want to know.

Henry Wallace
Great Falls MT

[Germany, one of the freest of countries,  is on an austerity plan after hyper-spending and instituting many socialistic programs.  China, a repressive dictatorship, is successful now as a result of the government loosening its formerly total grasp on capitalistic ventures and, in the process, not demanding compliance with the kind of environmental and business regulations we have here.  Brazil is emerging largely as a result of developing ethanol that provides cheaper fuel and less dependence on foreign resources. If you get tired of bashing the USA you have the freedom to pack it in and go to any one of these nations -- if their immigration laws will allow you in. -ED]
